Please read these rules before using the sauna.
Sauna bathing involves high temperatures and places additional demands on the body. These rules are designed to help everyone enjoy Bosham Sauna safely.
Before using the sauna
Please do not use the sauna if you:
- feel unwell, feverish or faint;
- are significantly dehydrated;
- are under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs;
- are taking medication which makes sauna use unsafe for you; or
- have been advised by a healthcare professional to avoid sauna use.
If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, have concerns regarding your heart, circulation or blood pressure, or are unsure whether sauna use is suitable for you, seek appropriate medical advice before participating.
Bosham Sauna staff cannot provide medical advice.
While using the sauna
- Listen to your body.
- Take regular breaks.
- Leave immediately if you feel dizzy, faint, nauseous, confused, unusually short of breath or otherwise unwell.
- Drink sufficient water.
- Sit on a towel.
- Keep the entrance and exit clear.
- Take care around hot surfaces.
- Do not touch the heater, stove, flue or other hot metal surfaces.
- Do not interfere with electrical equipment, heating equipment or controls unless instructed to do so.
- Do not place clothing or other flammable items near the heat source.
- Do not bring glass into the sauna.
- Do not bring food into the sauna unless expressly permitted.
- Do not use oils, fragrances or other substances on sauna stones unless they have been provided or approved by Bosham Sauna.
- Do not behave in a way which could endanger yourself or anyone else.
As a general guide, many people prefer shorter periods in the heat followed by time outside to cool down rather than remaining continuously in the sauna.
Alcohol and drugs
Do not use the sauna while intoxicated or where alcohol, drugs or medication have impaired your judgement, balance or ability to respond safely to heat.
Bosham Sauna may refuse entry or require somebody to leave if we reasonably believe they are not safe to use the sauna.
Cold plunge and cold water
Cold-water immersion can place additional stress on the body.
Enter cold water carefully and leave immediately if you feel unwell.
Never pressure another person to remain in cold water.
Where you use the sea or any other natural body of water, you are responsible for assessing the conditions and your own ability.
Bosham Sauna does not guarantee or supervise the safety of open water unless expressly stated.
Children
Children may only use Bosham Sauna where the relevant booking type permits them to do so.
Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
The supervising adult is responsible for deciding whether heat exposure is appropriate for the child and for ensuring they leave the sauna when necessary.
Any specific age limits displayed when booking take precedence.
Group bookings
The lead booker must make sure everyone in their group is aware of these rules.
The lead booker must also:
- ensure capacity limits are followed;
- prevent unsafe or disruptive behaviour;
- keep access routes clear;
- report accidents, faults or damage;
- ensure children are properly supervised; and
- follow instructions given by Bosham Sauna.
Mobile Private Hire
For Mobile Private Hire, additional rules apply.
Following handover, the lead booker is responsible for reasonable supervision of the sauna and guests until collection.
The sauna must not be:
- moved;
- towed;
- repositioned;
- dismantled;
- modified;
- interfered with; or
- connected or disconnected from utilities except as instructed.
Only equipment and fuel supplied or approved by Bosham Sauna may be used.
The sauna must not be left in circumstances where unauthorised people can use or interfere with it.
The lead booker must maintain safe access around the sauna and follow all instructions given during handover.
Any equipment fault must be reported to Bosham Sauna promptly.
If you believe equipment is unsafe, stop using it until Bosham Sauna advises that use may resume.
Fire and heater safety
Where a wood-fired heater is used:
- follow the handover instructions provided;
- never use petrol, accelerants or inappropriate fuel;
- keep combustible materials away from the heater and flue;
- never obstruct the sauna exit;
- do not touch the heater or flue;
- do not attempt repairs; and
- follow any instructions regarding supervision of the fire.
Where an electric heater is used, customers must not alter wiring, electrical connections or safety equipment.
Towels, footwear and hygiene
Use a towel to sit on inside the sauna.
Wear suitable footwear outside where surfaces may be wet, cold, slippery or uneven.
Please shower or rinse where facilities are provided and follow any hygiene instructions displayed on site.
Capacity
Never exceed the maximum number of people permitted inside the sauna at one time.
Approximately eight people may be permitted in the sauna simultaneously, but the final maximum capacity communicated by Bosham Sauna must always be followed.
Personal belongings
Heat can damage phones, watches, jewellery and other personal items.
We recommend leaving valuables outside the sauna.
Metal jewellery and accessories can become hot and should be removed where appropriate.
Emergencies
If somebody becomes unwell:
- Help them leave the sauna.
- Move them to a safe, cooler location.
- Seek appropriate medical assistance.
- Call 999 in an emergency.
- Tell Bosham Sauna about any serious incident as soon as reasonably possible.
Damage or faults
Please tell us immediately if something is damaged or stops working.
Do not attempt to hide, repair or modify damaged equipment yourself.
Prompt reporting helps us keep the sauna safe for you and future guests.
Respect
Please treat the following with respect:
- the sauna;
- other guests;
- neighbouring properties;
- staff;
- the surrounding environment; and
- any venue hosting the sauna.
Serious misconduct, unsafe behaviour or repeated disregard of these rules may result in the session being stopped.
By using Bosham Sauna
By using the sauna you confirm that:
- you have read and will follow these safety rules;
- you will take reasonable responsibility for your own health and behaviour;
- you will follow instructions given by Bosham Sauna; and
- you will stop using the sauna if you feel unwell or believe continued use is unsafe.
Nothing in these rules limits any liability which Bosham Sauna cannot lawfully exclude.
